The Symphonic Brahms Volume 1
The Symphonic Brahms Volume 1

This Brahms collection features the stirring Hungarian Dance No. 5 and Symphony No. 1

The music of Johanness Brahms is known for its masterful combination of older Baroque and Classical musical forms with the tonal developments of the Romantic Era. Brahms is a clear successor to Beethoven. In fact, Brahms revered Beethoven so much that he had a marble bust of the great composer overlooking his workspace.

Brahms' Hungarian Dances were some of his most popular and financially rewarding works. They feature folk themes and are easily digestible by a wide audience. Brahms made many arrangements of the Hungarian Dances. The recordings we feature on this disc are all for full orchestra.

The complete Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 is also featured in this collection. There is a giant Beethoven influence in this symphony. Apparently Brahms himself got tired of the constant comparisons. When ask if Beethoven served as a model for the 4th movement of this First Symphony, Brahms remarked "Any ass can see that".

Hungarian Dance No. 1 in G Minor Royalty Free Music
Hungarian Dance No. 1 in G Minor: Allegro Molto, by Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897). The Hungarian Dances were among Brahms' most popular works during his lifetime and continue to be performed to this day. The melodies, however, are not original, they are actual folk melodies from Hungary.

Hungarian Dance No. 5 in G Minor Royalty Free Music
Hungarian Dance No. 5 in F sharp minor by Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897). Originally written for 2 pianists, the Hungarian dances were so popular (and profitable) that Brahms arranged them for several different ensembles. Our recording is played in G Minor (not F sharp minor) and is arranged for full orchestra. Hungarian Dance No. 5 is the most famous of the 21 movements and has been used in cartoons and other films often for comedic effect. You will undoubtedly recognize the melody of this track.

Mvt 1, Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 68 Royalty Free Music
Movement 1 from Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 by Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897). Brahms, feeling the heavy weight of Beethoven's legacy, worked on his first symphony for several years, destroying several attempted versions. The symphony is really an homage to Beethoven and is even sometimes referred to as Beethoven's Tenth Symphony.

Movement 2 (Andante) from Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 by Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897). This slow second movement, in E major, features a lyrical melody in the strings and has an overall melancholic quality to it.

Movement 3 (Allegretto) from Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 by Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897). This movement possesses a soothing, pastoral melody and does indeed evoke Beethoven (especially the first movement of Beethoven's 6th Symphony).

Mvt 4, Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 Royalty Free Music
Movement 4 (Adagio-Andante-Allegro) from Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 by Johannes Brahms (1833 - 1897). Very dramatic in size and scope, the fourth movement makes a powerful impression when used as background soundtrack. Listen for the famous final theme presented first in the strings and then taken up by the full orchestra. It's tribute to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is fully apparent.
