Volume 2: English Masters, Vol. 2 Volume Two of the English Masters Pack is dedicated the a complete recording of Edward Elgar's Symphony No. 2 in E-Flat Major.
Styles Include: Late Romantic Era, early Twentieth Century symphonic music
Features all four movements of the elegiac Symphony No. 2 in E-Flat Major
Song Descriptions: Elgar dedicated this symphony to King Edward VII of England (1911). The symphony is somewhat somber and can be seen as a look back at a passing era in Europe - The Belle Epoque "Beautiful Era" which would soon give way to the tragedy of World War One (1914).
Volume 3: English Masters, Vol. 3 Our English Masters series concludes with a complete recording of Gustav Holst's The Planets. This work, perhaps more than any in the classical literature, has influenced modern film composers. Virtually all of the Hollywood, big-budget action adventure film soundtracks owe a debt to Holst's Planets suite. Listen to the movement titled "Mars" for an example.
Styles Include: Early Twentieth Century symphonic music by Gustav Holst.
Features a full recording of all 7 movements of Holst's "The Planets" Mars, the Bringer of War, Venus, the Bringer of Peace, Mercury, the Winged Messenger, jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age, Uranus, The Magician, and Neptune, the Mystic.
Song Descriptions: The Planets suite was likened to Stavinsky's Rite of Spring because of its highly original instrumentation and its aggressive use of dissonance and rhythm. There are great orchestral textures here that have inspired untold film scores.
