Largo-Allegro, Mov't 1 from Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Opus 31 No. 2 (The Tempest) by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Named 'The Tempest' after Beethoven's death it is speculated that the title was inspired by the Shakespeare play of that name. This first movement alternates between moments of peace and a sudden flurry of notes.
