Movement 1 from the Surprise Symphony, Symphony No. 94 in G major (H1/94) by Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). This movement is famous for its surprise, a loud, unexpected orchestral chord that occurs about 28 seconds into the recording at the end of the melody statement. This is a light, happy melody which is one of Haydn's most performed pieces.
