Movement 1, Adagio/Moderato from the Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85 by Edward Elgar. Composed during the summer of 1919, Elgar's cello concerto is a reflection on the devastation of World War 1 (which ended in 1918). The work is filled with despair and sadness. This movement has a grand melody that tries to surmount the overall feelings of anguish. As a soundtrack this movement will best accompany highly dramatic images, documentary footage, historical footage. A highly dramatic piece.
