Completed in 1892, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet, is one of the most popular pieces of music ever created. Truly a masterpiece, this perennial favorite of the concert stage - especially during the Christmas season - vividly displays the composer's melodic powers and his virtuosity in creating varied orchestral colors.

This CD features three of the most famous pieces from the Nutcracker - "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies," "Trepak" (Russian Dance), and "Waltz of the Flowers."
The Seasons, presented here for full orchestra, originated as a solo piano piece and was so successful that Tchaikovsky later adapted it for the symphony.
Each movement of The Seasons is titled after a month of the year and creates a specific emotion. For instance, the first movement, January: By the Hearth, is a warm, relaxing, quiet piece. Movement 2 February: Carnival Time, as the name suggests, is boisterous and jovial.
These pieces give you many moods to choose from when considering which soundtrack to use for a scene.
