The Piano Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 40, composed by Felix Mendelssohn in 1837 is a pure delight. Lively and bouncy, there is a sense of sheer joy throughout.
Mendelssohn was a great melodist and his gifts are very apparent here. With upbeat tempos and driving rhythms this music is charming and charismatic. A thrilling piano part is played here with nimble dexterity throughout.

Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op.54, is one of the great piano concertos of the Romantic Age. The first movement features a lovely somewhat melancholy melody that is eventually taken up in the full orchestra.
Movement 2 Andantino and Rondo is sometimes listed as two separate movements (probably because of the length of the movement), but Schumann preferred that it be listed as one complete movement. This movement has a pastoral and lyrical quality. Dramatic and passionate, this concerto exemplifies the 19th Century's Romantic spirit.
