Two brilliant Piano Concertos by Franz Liszt highlight this 2nd Volume of 19th Century Concertos

Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat major, S.124 and Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 in A Major, S.125 are the featured works on this second volume of 19th Century concertos. Concerto No. 1 was written in 1839 and much revised until 1853. The first performance was in 1855 with Liszt performing the piano part and composer Hector Berlioz conducting.

Concerto No. 2 was completed in 1861. The piece begins with slow, solemn strains first heard in the clarinet. The piano then enters playing lines over a lyrical string melody. This soon gives way to brilliant and virtuosic piano playing punctuated by thick orchestral accompaniment.
As underscore the music here would be great for dramatic presentations or when a wide range of orchestral textures and dynamics are needed.
