Anton Dvorak's four movement Symphony No. 9 in E minor (From the New World) is the featured work in this volume. You'll especially want to listen to the lovely 2nd movement from the symphony. It is one of the most famous melodies in the world.

Also featured in this volume is Symphony No. 1 in B Flat Major, Op. 38 by Robert Schumann. This symphony is also called the Spring Symphony. The symphony was first conducted by another famous composer of the time, Felix Mendelssohn. The slow second movement and the upbeat and joyful (for Spring) fourth movement highlight the work.

Movement 1, Symphony No. 9, in E Minor "From the New World" (Op. 95) by Anton Dvořák (1841-1904). This is Dvořák's most famous work and still remains one of the most performed symphonies in the world. Dvořák's New World Symphony came out of his experience in America from 1892-1895. In fact the first performance of the symphony was at Carnegie Hall by the New York Philharmonic in 1893. (12:06)

Movement 2 (Largo), Symphony No. 9, in E Minor "From the New World" (Op. 95) by Anton Dvořák (1841-1904). This second movement is the most famous melody from the New World Symphony. It is often performed on its own as a showpiece at Pops concerts or in compilations of orchestral hits. The lyrical melody is beautiful and evokes the rural, pastoral quality of nineteenth-century America. It is said that Dvořák based the melody on African-American spirituals. (11:55)
