We have packed our 8 volume 19th Century Masterworks collection with the most famous orchestral music of the 1800s.
In addition to The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas and Mahler's First Symphony, this third volume also contains the Prelude from Wagner's opera Lohengrin as well as movments from Elgar's Cello Concerto in E Minor.

Listen as well to the three violin showpieces we have by Spanish master Pablo de Sarasate. Included in this volume is Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy which uses famous melodies from the opera Carmen as vehicles for virtuosic violin writing. This track makes a great accompaniment to our opera tracks from Carmen.

Mvt 4, Symphony No. 1 in D major (Titan) by Gustav Mahler. This fourth movment to Mahler's Symphony No. 1 is highly dramatic possessing a stormy, bombastic quality to it. It will provide energy and great dramatic high points when used as soundtrack in a media production. (17:39)

The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas
The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a symphonic poem by Paul Dukas (1865-1935). The work depicts the story of a young apprentice who upon seeing his master depart, attempts to use magic unfortunately with disasterous effect. This piece was made famous when it was included as a segment in Walt Disney's Fantasia with Mickey Mouse playing the role of the hapless Sorcerer's Apprentice. (10:42)

Rakoczy March by Franz Liszt
The Rakoczy March for Orchestra S. 359 by Franz Liszt is the composer's arrangement of an existing Hungarian melody that was quite popular at the time. The song has gone on to become the unofficial anthem of the nation of Hungary. Liszt, a Hungarian native, uses the melody in several works including his Hungarian Rhapsody 15. (8:47)

Mvt 1 from Cello Concerto by Edward Elgar
Mvt 1, Adagio/Moderato from the Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85 by Edward Elgar. Composed during the summer of 1919, Elgar's cello concerto is a reflection on the devastation of World War 1 (which ended in 1918). The work is filled with despair and sadness. This movement has a grand melody that tries to surmount the overall feelings of anguish. As a soundtrack this movement will best accompany highly dramatic images, documentary footage, historical footage. A highly dramatic piece. (8:07)

Prelude from Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin
Orchestral Prelude from the opera Lohengrin by Richard Wagner (1813-1883). This is the prelude to Act 1 of the opera Lohengrin, a romantic and lyrical story of a hero knight. The orchestral prelude to Act 3 of this opera can be found on our Famous Opera: Wagner collection (9:49)

Carmen Fantasy, Op. 25, by Pablo de Sarasate
Carmen Fantasy, Op. 25, by Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908). Composed in 1883, this piece uses famous melodies from Bizet's opera Carmen. As with most of Sarastate's music, the piece is a virtuosic display of violin technique. The piece evokes a thrilling and upbeat mood. (11:27)

Zapateado by Pablo de Sarasate
Zapateado for Violin and Piano, Op. 23 No. 2 by Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908). Another virtuosic work for violin composed by Sarasate. The zapateado is a lively Spanish dance. This recording has a light, uplifting, happy quality to it. (3:23)

Zigeunerweisin (Gypsy Airs) in C Minor, Op. 20 by Pablo de Sarasate (1844-1908). One of Sarasate's most famous compositions, the piece uses traditional Hungarian folk dance rhythms to create its gypsy atmosphere. (8:55)
