Frederic's Chopin's compositions for piano are generally thought to be among the greatest works for piano. Chopin was a child prodigy and was considered a virtuoso pianist.
Chopin was Polish but moved to Paris by the time he was 20 years old. He was the first to bring Slavic music into European concert music. His mazurkas and polonaises show his Polish roots.

Tragically, Chopin died very young at 39. His musical output, however, is extensive for the piano and is constantly performed to this day.
Volume 1 of our Chopin Piano Music series includes several of his best known works. Be sure to listen to his soft and lyrical Berceuse (Op. 57), and the famous "Raindrop" Prelude in D Flat Major. Also included are two of his Ballades, several Nocturnes and Polonaises including the well-known and much performed Military Polonaise in A Major (Op. 40, No. 1).
