The music of Gabriel Fauré is featured in this collection. His complete Requiem Mass is included here as well as the haunting, dark Barcarolle No. 1 for solo piano and the beautiful Berceuse for Violin and Piano.
Along with Fauré there is Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and several pieces by Erik Satie including his famous Gymnopedie No. 1 giving this album a very French and Impressionistic feeling.

The collection also includes the famous Promenade from Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky (the English progressive rock band Emerson Lake and Palmer recorded a version of this in the 1970s).
19th Century Masterworks Vol 5 also includes a wonderfully romantic piece by Brahms entitled Ever Softer Grows My Slumber, a frisky Hungarian Fantasy by Liszt, Berlioz's Shepherd's Farewell and the glorious final movement from Mendelssohn's Elijah Chorus titled And Then Shall Your Light Break Forth.
