Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a child prodigy. By age seven he had toured Europe performing with his sister and father for the major courts of the day. To pass the hours travelling from city to city (it was a 3.5 year tour), Mozart took up music composition. He wrote his first symphony at age 8. He went on to write 40 more. His style greatly influenced and helped define music of the Classical Era (1730 ñ 1820).

Symphony No. 35 in D Major was a commission for the enoblement of Sigmund Haffner, the son of a well-to-do Salzburg family hence the name Haffner Symphony. Mozart composed the symphony under extreme pressure as the commission came in last minute and he was waist-deep in other musical projects. He did manage to finish it and months later while arranging a performance of the symphony, Mozart was surprised to discover that he couldn't remember a single note - he had dashed it off so quickly. He was very pleased with it though and it has thrlled audiences ever since.
Symphony No. 41 in C Major, known as the Jupiter Symphony is Mozart's final symphony composed right after the famous Symphony No. 40 in 1788. At this time Mozart is said to be broke and in debt. His new born daughter had just died and Austria was at war with Turkey. Still the Jupiter Symphony is regarded as a masterpiece, a summing up of all that happened in symphonic music before it and foreshadowing the symphonies of Beethoven.
