The Great Mass In C Minor - One of Mozart's greatest works for choir and orchestra

You can hear the influence of both Bach and Handel in Mozart's Great Mass In C Minor. Like Mozart's Requiem Mass, this work was never finished. It is missing its Agnus Dei movement however it is still one of Mozart's most beloved and most performed compositions.
Unlike most of his works, the Great Mass was not commissioned. Mozart wrote it for his own pleasure to celebrate his recent marriage to Constanze Weber. Constanze, a soprano, probably performed one of the soprano parts at the first performance in 1783.

In addition to the Great Mass, this collection also includes two smaller sacred vocal compositions. You'll probably recognize the first piece, the Alleluia from Mozart's motet entitled Exsultate, Jubilate. This much performed piece has a very familiar melody. The second piece, Ave Verum Corpus is one of the greatest, most sublime, choral movements ever composed. Our colleciton begins with these two shorter works and then turns toward the Mass.

Ave Verum Corpus - Mozart
Ave Verum Corpus translates as "Hail true Body" (born of the virgin Mary). It is one of the single most touchingly beautiful melodies Mozart ever composed. It was Mozart's final sacred work completed in 1791 for the feast of Corpus Christi. (3:24)
