Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart left a body of work second to none. His music is marked by clarity and balance. His style greatly influenced and helped define music of the Classical Era (1730 ñ 1820).
Mozart's Horn Concertos are among his most popular concert works. They form the backbone of the Classical horn repertoire.

One of Mozart's best friends was the horn player Joseph Iganz Leitgeb. They met when they were both in the Salzburg court orchestra. All of Mozart's Horn Concertos were written for Leitgeb. The horn of Mozart's time is unlike the modern French Horn (there were no valves). As difficult as these concertos are for today's soloists, they must have been extremely difficult on the horn of Mozart's time. Leitgeb must have, indeed, been quite a soloist.
The Flute Concerto No 2 in D Major is an adaptation of Mozart's Oboe Concerto which he had written a year earlier. It is a light and engaging work full or wonderful trills and runs for the flute soloist.
