This second volume in the Classical Christianity series consists of music for church choir.
The text of the Ave Maria has been set to music by dozens of composers over the centuries. The most famous versions included here are the Gounod version (which incorporates the first prelude from Bach's Well Tempered Clavier) and Franz Shubert's Ave Maria masterpiece. Both of these are very recognizable and are performed at Christmas and Easter every year.
|
One of the most beautiful pieces on this disc is the Ave Maria setting by Giulio Caccini. This uplifting track adds a spiritual grace to any footage or narrative text it is coupled with. Images of current events, joy and despair are all given compassionate underscore with this piece.
Another work featured in this set is Rachmaninov's Ave Maria (Bogoroditsye Devo) from his Vespers for unaccompanied chorus. It creates a tender, devotional mood under the images of your presentation.

Ave Maria - F. Schubert
Composed by Franz Shubert, (1797 - 1828) this is possibly the most famous Ave Maria set to music. This piece is performed mainly during Christmas celebrations. You will undoubtedly recognize the melody. The only other contender as far as fame, would be the Gounod/Bach Ave Maria. (5:01)
