Mvt 1, Piano Concerto 5 (Emperor Concerto) Op 73
Movement 1, Allegro, from the Emperor Concerto, Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73 by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Written between 1809-1811, this first movement paints a bold, heroic mood. This is easily Beethoven's most famous piano concerto. It's been used as soundtrack in Dead Poet's Society and recently in The Assassination of Richard Nixon.
Mvt 3, Piano Concerto 5 (Emperor Concerto) Op 73
Movement 3, Rondo, from the Emperor Concerto, Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73 by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Beethoven's brilliant finale movement to the Emperor Concerto has a propulsive melody which appears first with the piano and then the full orchestra. Many piano variations are spun out using this melodic material. It is joyous, heroic, sometimes contentious, powerful, and glorious.
