Barcarolle (1881) is the most famous piece from Offenbach's opera Tales of Hoffman. It was used in the soundtrack of Roberto Benigni 's movie Life is Beautiful when Benigni's character, Guido secretly plays the Barcarolle over the concentration c's loudspeaker in an effort to communicate hope to his wife and others.
